It prompted others to share snaps of their $3 vinyl makeovers.
“I did the same for bathroom shelves,” another woman wrote, showing her new-look shelf, while one woman said she used the same woodgrain roll to transform her sister’s door — giving the space a much wider, more open feel.
“This is probably one of the best contact hacks I’ve seen,” another Kmart fan reiterated.

The sheets, which are 200cm in length and 45cm wide, can be applied to the majority of flat surfaces and are “ideal for covering shelves, drawers and upcycling homewares”, according to Kmart’s product description.
It also stated it’s a “quick and economical solution to freshening up surfaces”.
In fact, people are so obsessed with the item, there’s more than 400 combined reviews on the website boasting about the nine different types of adhesive rolls, with a five-star average rating.
The marble design has the most reviews at 111.
“I used it for my wardrobe shelf and created a clean and nice look in a few seconds. Stick well, easy to apply,” one customer wrote.
“I love this product so many uses,” another added.
One shopper warned that while it stuck on their laminated floor and ceiling, it didn’t stick on rough wood.
“It has to be sanded first before you stick it on,” they suggested.
“I’d say it’s not so best to sticking onto woods. I’d not recommend that part as I stick it on my painted cupboard they seem to come off.
“It’s a bit thin, I can see through the painting underneath the wood (so) you probably need to double the adhesive vinyl to conceal the underneath mess or drawing … or you need darker colour for that.”
Other styles include black marble, oak woodgrain and concrete.
“Love love love this for DIY projects I’ve now covered old furniture with these vinyls & they’ve given new life to old friends (; #WINNINGHACK,” another happy customer wrote online.
